Spurs battled hard in this league game, they played some nice football & dominated for long periods creating many chances, but their unlucky streak continued at Paton street as they left once again empty handed. Spurs started the match in brisk fashion, passing the ball well, with spurs front two of Thomson & Thaw unsettling the home defence with some direct runs on goal & creating several openings which kept the home keeper busy. Somewhat against the run of play Elgin went ahead when they broke up field & found the net. Spurs continued to play well, Guthrie winning ball in midfield & his pinpoint passing creating several chances which spurs could not convert. More Spurs pressure led to a pass back ,which the home keeper mistimed with the ball falling for Thomson who made no mistake finding the net. Elgin regained the lead in dubious fashion, a ball played forward to Elgins tall forward who looked well offside, but he ran through & scored with the ref giving the goal. Barclay kept spurs in the game when he dived to make a terrific one handed save from a volleyed shot. With only minutes remaining Elgin all but sealed the win when they took advantage of slack marking in the spurs box to score a third. Spurs kept at it & Thomson latched on to a pass to score his second of the game. With only seconds remaining spurs pushed for a third but the referee blew for time.
