Spurs 1 (Thaw) Glenrothes strollers 6

Spurs took on Glenrothes strollers in this Fife cup tie & with strollers flying high in the first division, spurs knew it would be a tough afternoon. With the strong wind sweeping across the waid pitch spurs worked hard from the start, getting players behind the ball to frustrate strollers & getting forward when the chance came. Midway through the first period a quick break up the park by spurs found Thaw with a glimpse of goal, his beautifully struck shot held up slightly in the wind & found the top corner to give spurs the lead. Spurs continue to defend well to go in ahead at the break. The second period strollers piled forward in attack but spurs again
broke up the park with Thaw who had options to pass, but struck another great drive which rattled the crossbar. Strollers were reduced to ten men with one of their players shown a straight red card for a kick at Herd off the ball. Barclay in goal for spurs made a fine save from a low drive as spurs continued to keep out the first division side to go in at the second period still ahead. Strollers drew level shortly after the restart, the ball knocked in the net from close range following a corner. Moments later Rutherford who had worked hard as a lone striker had a glorious chance to put spurs back in front, but with the strollers keeper off his line Rutherfords attempted lob found the keepers hands. Strollers went straight up the park to score a second goal. With the home team starting to feel the pace after defending for long periods strollers added another two quick goals. Barclay had another fine save, this time getting his fingertips to a goalbound header. Disappointingly spurs managed to concede a further two goals in the last few minutes through lack of concentration, but overall the team battled hard as a unit for most of the match & matched their opponents for two thirds of the game, & can take that in to next weeks league game.
