A spirited performance from the spurs at Paton street in this Fife cup tie, although going down 4.1, the game was much closer than the score suggests. Spurs made several changes from last weeks game with Murray returning after injury, & Thomson in the starting line up after recovering from a knee injury. Spurs had a great chance to go ahead in the first minute after Dignan latched on to a through ball, but the Elgin keeper was quick out & made a fine save from the spurs striker. The Elgin keeper was to go on to have a fine game with some important saves in the match. The first period ended goaless, with both teams trying to play football despite the heavy pitch. Elgin broke the deadlock in the second period, with Herd lying injured in the box after the ball thundered off the defender, the Elgin striker found space to tuck the ball into the net. The injured Herd had to be replaced by Morrison. Elgin scored a further two goals to end the period three goals up. Spurs did have some great chances to score, but Murray, Thaw & Dignan found the Elgin no 1 in fine form. Elgin scored a fourth after a fine headed goal from a corner, but Spurs were rewarded for their hard work with Thaw taking a pass from R Leitch in his stride before shooting past the keeper.
A much better team performance from the boys, & if they continue to work hard better results will follow.
