East Fife 6 Spurs 2 (Murray, Rutherford)

Spurs were well beaten in this friendly at Methil, but will feel slightly aggrieved at some of the strong challenges from the home side & some terrible decisions by an inexperienced referee. The first period was one way traffic as Spurs struggled to get out of their own half. East Fife took the lead in the second period with a good strike at goal. Morrison had a chance to level but pulled his shot wide of goal, Fife then went up the park & were awarded a penalty as Stubbs committed a foul that looked to be outside the box. Spurs protests were in vain as the pen was scored despite Barclay almost keeping it out. Spurs players were left frustrated once more as the ref allowed a fourth goal to stand, despite their claim that the ball was clearly out of play in the build up to the goal. Murray pulled a goal back for Spurs with the aid of a deflection, but Fife added another three goals of their own with the now dejected Spurs players being overran. Spurs scored a second goal after a good run on the left by Rutherford, the striker then found the net with an angled shot. With a lot of fouls being ignored by the official the match was in danger of boiling over, a dangerous challenge on Stubbs left him furious, but he managed to regain his composure.
