A fine win for St Monans spurs, scoring five well taken goals, but also creating lots of chances. The spurs could have won by a bigger margin, but the Kirckaldy keeper had some outstanding saves during the match. Town had the first shot of goal, when they were awarded an indirect free kick inside the box after Barclay in spurs goal collected a Dick-Marner pass back, the free kick going just wide of the post. After a succession of corners for the spurs, Stubbs went close as he thundered Rutherford's cross against the bar. Spurs took the lead after another corner by Rutherford was met by Guthrie, his powerful header crashed off the crossbar where McIntosh was well placed to knock the ball into the net. The second period was only minutes old when spurs increased their lead, a ball through to Thomson left him with only the keeper to beat, Thomson showed great composure to pass the ball into the corner. Good build up play from McIntosh & Rutherford played in Dignan who hit his shot first time to find the corner of the net to make it three for the home side. Rutherford was next to get on the score sheet, a free kick played into the box found McIntosh who's shot was palmed out by the keeper, only for Rutherford to bury the rebound into the back of the net. Kirkcaldy Town came back in to the game & were rewarded with a well taken goal, a Town striker unleashing a stunning drive from long range to give Barclay little chance. Dignan scored spurs fifth & his second of the match with a crisp finish inside the box from a Rutherford cross. Morrison replaced Barclay in goal for spurs & had a quiet debut in goal as the spurs defence remained firm for the remainder of the match.
