Spurs progressed through to the next round of the Scottish cup with two late goals, in a match they totally dominated. Spurs attacked from the first whistle, going close on numerous occasions. Kirriemuir's first real attack saw them take the lead, a long ball forward and a clinical finish from the Kirrie forward. Stung in to action Spurs mounted waves of attack but could not find a way past a resolute defence. The goal that drew Spurs level was a corker, after more good link up play by Spurs, Murray's square pass found Stubbs just outside the box who then unleashed a thunderous drive into the net past the helpless keeper. Half time 1.1. The second half saw Thaw replace R leitch, as Spurs continued to play neat passing football, with only some last ditch defending & poor finishing preventing the home team from going ahead. Spurs center midfield trio of Stubbs, Matthews & Murray were totally dominating play in the middle of the park, with Spurs wide men putting in a hard shift. Against the run of play Kirrie went ahead, another long ball gave their forward half a chance which he buried in the back of the net. With the clock ticking down Wood replaced the hard working Dignan up front, but Wood then had to be replaced by Dick - Marner after only 10 minutes after taking a knock. Dick - Marner made an instant impression when he tied the score, a ball passed into the sub & his well placed shot found the net. As Spurs went all out for the winner the defence remained strong , with great performances from the center backs Guthrie & Gay, and fullbacks Herd & J Leitch. With only minutes remaining anther ball was delivered in to the box & with his back to goal Dick-Marner managed to hook the ball over his head in to the top corner to send Spurs through.
