Happy new year everyone. Lets take a quick look back over last year.

Jan - Spurs 1st match of the year ended in a 2.0 defeat at Leven as East Fife 95's rode their luck & took their chances in this friendly.
Spurs played just 2 league matches losing both, going down 2.1 to Rothes at home & 5.2 away to Elgin 94's.

Feb - Spurs unbeaten as they fought for a good 4.4 draw away to Cairnyhill , then winning 3.1 at Kirkcaldy Town.

March - Not a good month for Spurs, going down 3.1 at Cupar, before a 3.0 defeat at high flying East Fife, finishing with a 3.1 defeat at Aberdour, not to mention a 2,0 defeat at Cairnyhill.

Apr - A mixed bag as Spurs lost 4.3 at Bayside, before a 2.2 draw at home to East Fife 95's, then a 1.0 win at home against Kirkcaldy town before losing 6.2 at Cupar.

May - Saw Spurs end the season on a high defeating Elgin Star 4.1, then the big match saw the old boys beat Spurs 3.2.

June - Spurs presentation & new coach as Bill Horsburgh takes over the squad.

July - All quiet as everyone enjoys a well deserved rest.

Aug - Spurs lose 5.3 to Kennoway 95's, before winning the 1st league match 4.2 at home to Elgin Star. Sam Boon returns to the club. Spurs lose 5.4 away to Rothes.

Sep - Spurs beat Kirkcaldy Town 5.3. Spurs win their 1st round Scottish cup tie, 3.0 at home to Ferry Athletic. Strollers just edge out Spurs 3.2 at Glenrothes. Spurs Scottish cup ends as Downfield win 3.2 after extra time at St Monans. Spurs players Kevin Murray & Shaun Thomson decide to leave the club.

Oct - Spurs have a great 2.0 home win over Cupar. St Johns win 8.0 at St Monans. Nial Hall rejoin's the club

Nov - A great match ends with Scone grabbing a last min goal to win 3.2 at St Monans. Fife cup 1st round at home & Fair City win 6.1. Revenge for Spurs as they win 4.3 at home against the Strollers. Spurs players Calum Anderson & Sean Beattie decide to leave the club.

Dec - No action as the cold weather sets in.

Spurs collected another three league points, but it was backs to the wall in the last ten minutes as Town staged a brave comeback. The first half was a tight affair with the Spurs just shading possession & chances. Spurs were leading 1.0 at the break thanks to Casement, who collected a throw in & tried a shot from 25 yards which found the net. Casement was later booked for a poorly timed tackle. Straight from the second half kick off Spurs made it two, as a ball over the top sent Rutherford clear & he was as lethal as ever as he scored in the corner. Spurs were creating lots of openings as they kept pushing forward, with Town still looking dangerous on the break. A third goal & the home side looked to be coasting, as Boon got the final touch from a corner. With only ten minutes of the game remaining Spurs seemed to push the self destruct button, Town's no 8 Stalker ran through the Spurs defence before shooting past Barclay. Minutes later Herd was sent from the field, as Stalker ran at the Spurs back line Herd was adjudged to push the Town player, the ref showing the Spurs player a straight red as he was the last man. Worse was to come for Spurs as Town scored again, with Stalker running through again to score. Spurs now seemed in a panic as Town pushed forward for the equalising goal. Barclay in the Spurs goal had to make three brilliant saves to keep the Kirkcaldy team out & Spurs were relieved when the final whistle sounded.

An exciting end to end league match saw Spurs win all three points, thanks to a penalty save from Barclay. Spurs were down to the bare bones, & with just ten available players Niall Hall made a welcome return to the team. Spurs went ahead through Rutherford, who made space in the box before placing his shot in the corner. The East Neuk side then made it two, as a good break up the right led to Hall squaring the ball for Boon who's shot was well saved by the keeper, but Hall was following up to stroke home the rebound. Strollers were in no mood to roll over, and grabbed a goal back, minutes later they scored again to tie the match as the Spurs seemed to lose their concentration. Half time 2.2. The home side had it all to do again, but were creating chances, as were the Strollers who were using the long ball to good effect with their quick strikers. Spurs went ahead with Rutherford again creating space with his dribbling skills before rifling a shot into the net. Spurs made it four, a good corner from Rutherford, & Gay had made an excellent run to volley a shot high into the net. The strollers fought back scoring straight from the kick off, a through ball put the forward through, & he tucked his shot away. Spurs were denied a penalty as Rutherford appeared to be pushed in the box, but moments later the ref awarded the Strollers a spot kick with Ellicott being penalised for fouling, although it looked as if the Glenrothes player tripped over his own feet, Barclay was the Spurs hero as he dived to his left to make a super save.

Spurs were without Thaw & Beattie for this first round Fife cup tie, as they crashed out to a strong physical city team. Spurs never really got going in the first half as first division city knocked in four goals without reply. The Spurs came more into the match in the second half & scored through Ellicott, but city scored another two goals to progress into round two.

Spurs 2 (Rutherford ) Scone 3

Spurs were extremely unlucky not to take at least a point from this league match as they fought hard & matched their opponents throughout the game. The driving rain & strong wind made it difficult for both teams, but they served up a cracker of a match that had everything. Spurs went ahead after 7 minutes, a through ball by Ellicott beat the defence & Rutherford was through on the keeper, who got a hand to Rutherfords shot, but the ball still found the net. Scone drew level midway through the half, then took the lead as a shot was forced home from a corner. Half time Spurs 1 Scone 2. The second half started with both teams on the attack, & Scone were awarded a pen after the Scone no 7 went down in the box, the same player took the spot kick but Barclay pulled off a stunning save. From that moment the Spurs seem to get a lift & were relentless as they drove forward, but couldn't get the break of the ball in the Scone box. Scone seemed to be hemmed in & only a few break aways troubled the Spurs defence who were coping well. Scone were then reduced to 10 men as Brown was almost cut in half with a brutal challenge, the offender given a straight red card. With only 6 minutes or so left Spurs broke forward again with Mcintosh & Rutherford exchanging passes before Mcintosh put through Rutherford who then lifted his shot over the keeper for a wonderful goal to tie the match. Spurs seemed to push on for a winner, but with only a minute to go Scone broke down the park to score the winner & to break the Spurs hearts.

Spurs were missing several key players for this friendly, but competed well in the first half, and were unlucky to lose two goals just before the break, the first goal shouldn't have stood as Barclay in goal had gathered the ball but was booted in the head before the ball was forced into the net.
Spurs needed a goal to get back in the game, but it was St Johns who scored within a minute of the second half to lead 3.0. Spurs heads were now down and a few of the Spurs players were just going through the motions . As the Spurs team collapsed St Johns turned the match into shooting practise, eventually winning 8.0

Spurs fully deserved this league win as they outfought Cupar & created the better openings to ended Cupars unbeaten run. A goalless first half was largely due to the Cupar keeper who saved several good efforts. Spurs were looking dangerous going forward with Thaw & Rutherford going close. Spurs took the lead when a good ball by Casement found Rutherford who drove in on goal before his shot took a slight deflection before crossing the line, with Thaw running in on goal to make sure the ball found the net. Two minutes later Spurs wrapped up the points when Rutherford scored again. The only poor performance of the day came from an over fussy referee who booked Mayes & Herd.

A great start to this match by Spurs against Strollers at their new home in Stenton, but a poor second half by the East Neuk boys saw the points stay in Glenrothes. Spurs started brightly & deserved to go ahead through Rutherford as he angled a drive across the keeper in to the bottom corner following a good run down the right. Spurs were creating some good chances, going close several times, a pass back gave Spurs an indirect free kick in the box, with Gay shaving the bar from the kick. Spurs went two up with a stunning goal, Gay collected the ball from 30 yards out & as the ball bounced up the Spurs captain unleashed a thunderbolt of a shot that flew into the top corner with the keeper rooted to the spot. Spurs then had a chance to go three goals up as the ref awarded hand ball in the box, but the Strollers keeper stood firm & saved Beatties spot kick. Strollers then got a lifeline as they pulled a goal back after a miss directed clearance from the defence ended up in the back of the Spurs net.

Strollers started the second half the hungrier team & pulled another goal back to square the match. Spurs then seemed to loose their shape & their energy as spaces appeared all over the park, Strollers took full advantage & scored their third & winning goal. Spurs did have several chances to tie the match but could'nt find the net.

Spurs marched on to the next round of the cup with a hard working & committed team performance. With Casement out Beattie was pulled back into defence with Herd given the nod to partner Gay in centre midfield. An even first half, but Spurs made the breakthrough to take the lead, a good cross in to the Ferry box, & with the defence slow to react Herd hooked the ball over his head in to the net. Half time Spurs 1 Ferry 0. The second half opened & it was Spurs who started the brightest, a corner was awarded to the Spurs, Herd whipped in a vicious cross which took the slightest deflections & ended up in the net. Ferry tried to get back in the game, but the Spurs back line were immense, with the full backs Ellicott & Brown in control & the centre pairing of Beattie & Mayes snuffing out any threat through the middle. Spurs wrapped up the game when Mcintosh received the ball on the right after a good move & stroked a left foot shot past the outstretched keeper into the corner. A mention for Spurs keeper Barclay who had a fine game, his handling at crosses was first class.

With the appointed league ref not showing up, the two teams agreed to play a friendly, with a stand in ref. This was a very even & competitive match, played in a fair spirit, with both teams creating lots of chances. Spurs went ahead with Rutherford scoring, with Town drawing level just before half time. Town started the second half well scoring twice to lead 3.1. Spurs rallied with Thaw pulling a goal back. Mcintosh then received a pass played across the box & buried his shot in the net to tie the score. Thaw then scored after outpacing his marker & finding the net. Spurs then made it five when a Mcintosh cross was met full length by Thaw who scored with a fantastic diving header.

Spurs failed to build on Sundays win as defencive lapses were to prove costly. Spurs got of to a great start when they took the lead within a minute, the Rothes keeper failed to hold a 40 yard free kick from Herd & Thaw was following up to bury the rebound. Rothes drew level with their first real attack, a quick break up the left by the Rothes winger who outpaced Herd, as the cross came into the box Mayes sliced his clearance over Barclay & into the net. Minutes later Rothes had the lead when a corner was headed home. Beattie tied the scores when he headed home a long throw in from Gay. Rothes took the lead after another cross was drilled home. The home team extended their lead after a scramble in the box fell to a Rothes player who shot home. Spurs pulled a goal back when a Beattie cross was met at the back post by Thaw who's volley found the corner. Rothes were reduced to ten men after a reckless tackle on Herd, but it was Rothes who scored again, the ref awarded a free kick for a pass back, & with the spurs slow to organise, a quick free kick was blasted into the net. Spurs pushed on & were rewarded with another goal with the best move of the match, Mcintosh received the ball wide on the left, he beat a man & passed to Rutherford who then passed to boon, who laid it off to Wood who was making a run into the box, Wood took the ball forward before drilling the ball in the corner. Spurs had another good move in the final minute, the ball finally being cut back to Beattie, but he couldn't quite connect with the shot.

A great start to the season for the spurs as they picked up all three points in a game they dominated for large periods. Spurs opened the scoring through captain Gay, as he eluded several challenges & struck a crisp shot into the corner from the edge of the box. Spurs made it two as a sweeping move down the left side saw Thaw outpace the defender & shoot past the keeper. Half time 2.0. The second half saw spurs push on to get a third goal, which would all but seal the match, but despite creating some good chances they couldn't find the net. Elgin star came back into the match & scored from a corner. Spurs then scored a third with Thaw again finding the net. Elgin star kept at it & were rewarded with second goal to give them some hope. Thaw made the points safe as he again outpaced the Elgin defence to score.

Spurs were quick of the mark in this pre-season friendly with Rutherford scoring after only a few minutes as he latched onto a through ball & tucked it away. Rutherford soon made it two as again he was one on one with the keeper & calmly lobbed him as he came out. Kennoway got back in the game after a melee in the box the ball deflected off Anderson into the net. Kennoway then scored another two goals to take the lead, before Wood raced through on goal & rifled the ball home to tie the score. The third period saw Spurs tire as Kennoway wrapped the game up with a further two goals.

A fair & spirited game at St Monans as the Old Boys hung on for victory. Despite the lashing rain both teams were keen to get the ball down & play, with spurs looking the most dangerous early in the match. The old boys took the lead with Wood getting on the end of a pass & finishing at the back post. Spurs rallied & drew level within minutes, Gay shooting home after a slack clearance. The second half was only minutes old when Rutherford scored to give Spurs the lead, but the old boys leveled the match with Marr lobbing the Spurs keeper after a defencive mix up. The old boys scored the winning goal when Wood outpaced the Spurs defence & scored. Beattie had a great chance to tie the match, but blasted his shot over the bar from 6 yards.

A great performance from the Spurs as they turned on the style to win the last league game of the season. Spurs had a great chance to go ahead early in the game when they were awarded a penalty for hand ball, but Gay's effort went just past the post. Spurs had several half chances but good defending kept Beattie & Rutherford out. Elgin went ahead when a long ball found their striker & he went through to score, although he looked offside. The second period saw Spurs searching for the equaliser, & after several promising moves they grabbed the goal they deserved, with Beattie racing up the left & rifling a left foot shot which the keeper could only parry, but Rutherford was alert to score. The third period started with Spurs on the attack & Gay scored a great goal after receiving the ball in midfield he looked up & lofted his shot over the keeper from all of forty yards. Spurs now found a bit of confidence & were passing well & creating more chances. A good move saw Rutherford out wide & with the Elgin keeper slipping Rutherford netted from a tight angle. Rutherford scored the fourth & completed his hat-trick when he collected a pass on the left & rifled a shot into the corner. A fine team performance right through from the keeper, & solid defence a strong midfield & busy forwards.

This years presentation night is on Friday the 26th of June at the Brae-head social club in St Monans with a 8.30 start.

A disappointing day at Cupar for the Spurs as they were defeated, with some of the goals conceded very soft. A good opening start for Spurs was undone as a ball over the top wasn't cut out & the Cupar striker was through on goal & scored. Spurs got right back in the game when Leitch put Rutherford through & he finished well. Cupar went ahead again when the ball fell to an unmarked player in the box & he had an easy shot into the net. The second period Cupar scored their third as a shot inside the box was squeezed over the line. Spurs scored again to get right back in the game, Spurs were awarded a free kick just outside the box & Gay drived it low & hard into the corner. In the third period Spurs lost their concentration as Cupar rattled in a further three goals, all of which were scored inside the box as Spurs failed to clear their lines.

Spurs had to work hard for this single goal win against a resolute Town side that never gave up. Spurs never really got their passing game going & looked a bit tired after their mid week match. Moodie headed against the bar early in the 1st period from a Rutherford cross. Spurs then scored the only goal of the match as Moodie chased down a back-pass, which the keeper missed & Moodie rolled the ball into the empty net. Town did create several chances, but Spurs defended well. Late in the game a good move ended with a rasping shot from Gay, but the keeper pulled of a fantastic save.

Spurs were missing Thaw & Herd through injury in this mid week friendly, also out was Casement & Brown, but back in the squad came Thomson, Murray & Forgan. Spurs virtually dominated the first period but couldn't put the ball in the net, East Fife's first attack ended with a goal, a good cross from a corner was headed in the net. Spurs drew level when Beattie powered in to the box & rifled a left foot shot into the corner. The second period was much closer but Spurs had more chances to score, Beattie shooting wide, & Rutherford going close. East Fife took the lead with a powerful drive from just inside the box, but Spurs scored again with a well worked goal, which ended with Rutherford scoring. Spurs had a chance to go ahead when Rutherford was put through with just the keeper to beat, but the ball bobbled as he was about to strike & the keeper smothered the ball.

Spurs ran Bayside very close in this league encounter at Dunfermline, with the home side just edging the match by one goal. On a tight pitch which made passing football difficult for both teams, Spurs competed well against a physical Bayside team. The home team went ahead in the first period with a shot that went in off the post. Spurs kept a good shape & restricted Baysides chances in front of goal. The second period belonged to Spurs who equalised when a Herd free - kick found Rutherford who dinked his shot past the advancing keeper. Spurs went ahead minutes later with a similar goal, another Herd free - kick over the Bayside defence, with the ball being deflected in to the Bayside net. Bayside were now rattled, but came out for the final period in determined fashion, bursting through on goal several times before they finally drew level with a break down the left & a cool finish. Bayside then went ahead after Spurs failed to clear the ball our of their box. Spurs were unlucky not to score when Beattie had a strong run & shot that clipped the bar. Bayside then scored a fourth with a long range effort that found the top corner, Spurs kept going & were rewarded when Thaw burst down the left & finished well. A strong finish from Spurs but Bayside held on for the win. Another improved performance from the Spurs.

Spurs narrowly lost out to Cairneyhill in this friendly match, but with spurs missing Murray, Rutherford, Thaw, Beattie & Thomson the team gave a great account of themselves. On a difficult pitch that resembled a cow field the first two periods remained goalless, with the home side creating the better chances. In the final period R Leitch had the ball in the Cairneyhill net after a scramble in the box, but the ref disallowed the goal for offside. The home side then hit the bar as they broke through the Spurs defence. Cairneyhill broke the deadlock with a somewhat fortunate goal, after a scramble in the Spurs box the ball was deflected into the net off a Cairneyhill player. Spurs mounted several good attacks, Brown unlucky with a good break forward. Moodie was next to break through on goal, but delayed his shot & the chance was gone. Moodie then got on the end of a cross,. but his header was cleared off the line. Barclay once again kept Spurs in the game with two exceptional saves, the second diving to his left & scooping the ball out when the shot looked to be heading into the net. Cairneyhill scored a second goal with another scrambled shot inside the box in the dying minutes.

Both teams had chances in the first period of this league match, with Thaw going close twice, but it was Cupar who opened the scoring when a break up the left was crossed in & finished. Cupar made it two soon after when another good run up the left wing went unchallenged & was well finished. The second period remained goalless with spurs battling well.In the final period Spurs grabbed a goal to get themselves back in the game, a long throw into the box by Gay was rifled into the corner of the net by Beattie. Spurs now had the upper hand & with the wind behind them piled the pressure on Cupar but could not find the breakthrough. In to the final part of the game, & with the wind now with Cupar Barclay had to pull off two good saves to keep spurs in the match. Cupar then scored their third goal directly from a corner to finish the match. A defeat for Spurs,but they are now competing well & improving in every match.

Next Sunday Spurs have a free week in the league, but have organised a friendly at Glenrothes with the Strollers.

Sam Stubbs has decided to leave the club, Sam made his debut mid way through the 2005-06 season away to Woodside. This was Spurs first 11 a side match which they won 1.0. Sam went on to make 75 appearances for the club scoring 13 goals. The club wish Sam all the best for the future.

Spurs were without Ellicott & Thaw through injury as they faced the league leaders at King George in Leven. The first period remained goalless as Spurs defended well under pressure from the Fife team, with Spurs limited to a few attacks of their own. The second period was much like the first, with Spurs keeping a good shape & frustrating the home side. East Fife did eventually make the breakthrough with a well finished goal.In the final period Spurs did create several half chances before being denied a strong penalty claim after the Fife keeper upended Rutherford in the box,however the referee waved away the claim. After defending for long periods in the game & only one substitute to bring on the Spurs had a lot of tired legs on the park & it was East Fife who scored another two goals in the last ten minutes to finish the game, but Spurs made them fight for their win as the Spurs team put in a terrific performance.

Spurs made two changes to last weeks starting line up with Murray & Beattie replacing Thaw & Thomson, with Casement & Wood also back in the squad. Spurs were put under early pressure by Aberdour, but it was Spurs who took the lead with their first attack, a ball played forward was knocked on by Rutherford to send Beattie through on goal, his pace sent him clear of the defence and as the keeper came out Beattie stroked the ball in the bottom corner. Aberdour drew level when a ball was played across goal & was poked home. Only minutes later Aberdour scored again, another ball played in across goal was met first by an Aberdour player who scored. The second period was fairly even with Aberdour grabbing another goal. Spurs refused to buckle & had the best of the third period, creating chances of their own, the best of those a flowing move ending with Gay hitting a rasping shot, only for the keeper to make a stunning save.

An exciting & controversial match at Blacklaws in Dunfermline as Spurs battled to earn a draw. Cairneyhill had most of the early possession & went ahead when a looping cross found the top corner. Spurs settled in to the match & Rutherford was unlucky not to score when his net bound shot was scrambled off the line. Spurs did equalise after Rutherford chased a loose ball, his shot went wide but Thaw gathered the ball, beat a defender & his left foot shot over the keeper was a beauty. In the second period Spurs looked dangerous every time they broke forward, & was no surprise when they took the lead with Thomson side footing the ball home after a long throw into the box from Gay. At the other end Cairneyhill should have scored but could only blast the ball over the bar from five yards out. Just minutes from the whistle the home team did score to tie the game once more. Chances at both ends in the final period as the game went end to end, Gay came close when his powerful header from a corner went wide, Thomson also went close when his shot hit the post. Cairneyhill took the lead with a thunderous drive into the top corner, although Barclay got a hand to the shot. Thaw went close when he made a good run from midfield, but his shot was off target. Barclay then made two great saves in the space of five minutes to keep Spurs in the game. Spurs tied the game once more, Thaw was brought down at the edge of the box & Rutherford fired the free-kick low past the wall into the bottom corner. The home team were denied their fourth goal when a shot was headed off the line by Brown, but Cairneyhill did score again, a bad tackle on Mayes inside the Spurs box went unpunished & with Barclay remonstrating with the ref the ball was rolled into the net with the ref awarding the goal, much to the displeasure of the Spurs coach.Spurs continued to drive forward & were awarded a penalty after Rutherford was pulled back in the box, Gay remained composed to blast the kick past the keeper.

A Rutherford hat-trick gave spurs the points, but they had to battle hard for them as town competed right to the final whistle. Spurs went ahead in the first period with Rutherford grabbing his first of the day, the home keeper had to be alert as first Thaw then Rutherford had shots on goal. Town drew level in the second period after spurs couldn't clear the ball out of defence. Spurs should have went ahead but missed chances & some great saves kept the match level. Spurs managed to raise their game in the last twenty five minutes,Rutherfords pace seen him clear of the defence & his shot was well placed in the corner to give spurs the lead. Good build up play involving Brown & Murray, with Wood then laying the ball to Rutherford who stroked the ball home for his third goal sealed the match for the St Monans side.

Another hard fought contest, with the final score somewhat flattering the home side. Spurs rallied after going a goal down & equalised through Thaw who poked the ball home after a good attack. Spurs were playing well & deserved their lead after Rutherford drove the ball past the Elgin keeper. The lead was short lived as spurs failed to concentrate & Elgin drew level within minutes. Elgin went on to score three more goals, but Spurs had chances throughout the match, Herd rattling the bar twice from free kicks, Thomson & Beattie hitting the post, an Ellicot header cleared off the line, & the home keeper making some great saves from Rutherford, & Thaw.

Two players leaving the club are Graeme Guthrie & Rhys Dick-Marner. Graeme made his debut for the spurs in their first ever game at Cupar over four years ago, & has since made 157 appearances for the spurs, scoring 14 goals along the way.

Graeme has played in just about every position for the club, & had his best season in 06-07, when he was voted players player & supporters player of the year.

Rhys has made over 30 appearances for the club, but failed to command a regular place in the team. Rhys scored 4 times for the club, 2 of which he scored in the Scottish cup against Kirriemuir last season, with the spurs trailing 2 goals to 1 with eight minutes to go, Rhys became the super sub scoring 2 late goals to send spurs through.Spurs wish both players good luck for the future.

Spurs travel to Dunfermline this Sunday to face Elgin star in the league. Spurs have a poor record against Elgin with only one win against the Dunfermline side. This game has a 10.30 kick off.

Elgin were no match for a hard working spurs team, that played neat passing football. Spurs started quickly, putting Elgin under early pressure, & went one nil up when an Elgin defender knocked the ball into his own net as Mcghee played a corner in. Spurs made it two when Mcghee had a good run up the left wing & scored from a tight angle. Spurs were first to every ball & made it three when sub Rutherford broke down the right & scored low in to the corner. Elgin pulled a goal back, but Spurs scored their fourth with another Rutherford goal.

Spurs picked up their first win of the season at sunny Recreation park. Spurs were out the traps quickly, a ball through to Thaw who beat a defender before being brought down, Thomson took the spot kick which was saved by the Town keeper.Spurs didn't have to wait too long for the opening goal, a driven free kick by Guthrie from all of 35 yards was fumbled by the keeper where Thaw was quickly in to stab the ball home.Stubbs made it two for spurs with a strong drive from the edge of the box that hit the post & in. Rutherford made a good run down the left beat the defence & crossed the ball which flew into the top corner. No scoring in the second period as Town came more into the game. Kirkcaldy did pull a goal back in the last period before Murray scored spurs fourth with a great goal, Ellicott crossed the ball in from the right where Murray was at the back post to acrobatically volley the ball in to the net. Town pulled another back, before Rutherford tied up the scoring with a headed goal from a Thomson cross. A fine team display from the spurs, with the defence looking strong, & will get better with games, also some strong performances in midfield, & at last some passing from the boys.

Spurs are back in league action this weekend, when they are hosts to Kirkcaldy town. With both teams still without any points its sure to be a competitive match.

Training will resume at the Waid this Wednesday (24.9.08) where fitness coach Steve Gillfillan will be working with the squad on speed training & agility.

Dundee celtic 5 Spurs 1 (Murray)

Spurs gave a good account of themselves in this Scottish cup tie, as they fought to the final whistle. Celtic took the lead with a deflected goal, with a celtic player distinctly offside. Celtic went two up with a terrific free kick from 25 yards that found the top corner. Spurs were penalised by a whistle happy ref, who gave celtic the lion share of free kicks. Spurs got themselves back in the game on the stroke of half time, a great run & shot by Thaw that hit the keeper in the face, Murray stroking home the rebound. Celtic went on to score three goals in the second half to win the tie, Gay was unlucky not to score a couple of goals late in the day, as he broke free, but was off target with his shots.

A miserable day in St Monans, with rain lashing down, & a strong wind blowing across the pitch, with the result leaving the home team even more miserable. Spurs found themselves two goals down midway through the first period, giving away two cheap goals. Rutherford scored to pull Spurs back in the game after a rare passing move, with Rutherford finding the corner. Elgin then scored another two goals, the fourth goal leaving the Spurs keeper Barclay injured & having to being replaced with outfield player Caseman, who went on to have some fine saves , but had to pick the ball out of the net a further three times as Elgin ran amok. Gay scored a consolation goal when he headed home a free kick. Spurs failed to match last weeks commitment, with several players off the pace, & showing a lack of passion.

Next Sunday the 14th of September Spurs travel to Dundee to face Celtic boys club in the first round of the Scottish cup. The match has a 2.00 kick off at Lochee park. The club have booked a bus for the trip, which will leave St Monans at 11.45.

Spurs v Elgin 94

Spurs are at home again this Sunday, where they play Elgin 94's. Spurs will again be without last seasons top goal scorer Ross Thaw who is still recovering from a virus, also missing is Kevin Murray who has an injury. Out for at least four weeks is Callum Anderson who broke his wrist in last weeks game.

Elgin 94 have a good record against the Spurs, having played on seven previous occasions Spurs have won only two games, with Elgin winning five.

A thrilling end to end game at Bankie, with chances galore. Elgin took the lead with a headed goal, before Guthrie scored with another headed goal from a corner. Spurs scored the winner with only fifteen minutes to go when Low scored a great individual goal.

A good team effort from the spurs, who competed from start to finish, but it was Rothes who took their chances to win the points. Spurs were the first to threaten, Thomson saw saw the keeper off his line, but his lofted shot hit the bar. Rutherford then broke free, with his shot just wide of the goal. Rothes took the lead, when spurs failed to clear & the Rothes striker scored. Rothes then went two up, a long range shot eluded Barclay to end up in the net. Barclay then pulled of two fantastic saves to keep spurs in the game. Guthrie did well on the right, but his angled shot beat the keeper only to go wide. Spurs did pull a goal back through Rutherford, when he lifted his shot over the keeper after good pressure from the home team. Spurs then had a good fifteen minute spell, going close several times, Rutherford going the closest after he broke clear, beat the keeper, but his shot squirmed past the post. Rothes got the killer third goal with a pass through the middle & good finish, they then added a fourth with another quick break forward, but spurs know this game was closer than that.

The spurs begin their league campaign this Sunday, at home to Rothes. The match was originally to be played at Glenrothes, but with their pitch unplayable the match was switched.
Spurs & Rothes have met 8 times in the league, with spurs winning 5 games & losing 3.

Spurs dominated most of the match, but superb goalkeeping from the Rothes no 1` kept the match level. With less than ten minutes of the game remaining a spurs corner was met at the front post by Guthrie, who powered a header in to the top corner to win the match.

Kirkcaldy town 2 Spurs 1 (Wood)

Spurs took the lead in this friendly match at Randolph park, with Wood lifting his shot over the keeper. Town drew level with a rare attack, as the first period ended all square. With no scoring in the second period, spurs pushed forward more in the final period & went close on numerous occasions, but they couldn't force the ball into the net. Spurs went 3 at the back & 3 upfront in the last five minutes as they tried to grab a winner, but it was Town who broke up field to score as the Kirkcaldy team celebrated their first win over spurs.

Blair Morrison has decided to leave St Monans Spurs to concentrate playing golf. Blair joined the club in April 2007 making 24 appearances & scoring 2 goals. The spurs would like to thank Blair for all his efforts & wish him well for the future.

Spurs have a pre season match arranged for Sunday the 24Th of August, against Kirkcaldy Town. The spurs have an excellent record against Town, with seven wins out of seven, scoring 58 goals & only conceding 4 in the process. The following Sunday (31st August) Spurs are away to Rothes for their opening league match. The draw for this seasons Scottish cup is due to take place this week, more details soon.

The new season kicks off on Sunday the 31st of August, with the usual 11.45 kick off time.

As this season we are required to play on a full sized pitch with full size goals, we shall
play our home games at St Monans.

This season there are two leagues of 10 clubs, & we shall be competing in the second division alongside Cupar & Elgin who were both relegated, also East fife, Aberdour, Cairnyhill, Elgin 94, Rothes, Baside, & Kirckaldy town.

Remember training resumes on Wed the 30th of July, at St Monans from 6.00 till 7.30. Could all players who have strips to return please do so at the first training session.

As you may already know the two new coaches for the coming season are Andrew Needham & Alexander Purves. Good luck to all the players & coaches for the season.
